Wraparound with Indigenous Communities
Partnership First
Wraparound is strongest when it is grounded in community, guided by relationships, and shaped by the people it serves. Across Canada, Indigenous communities, on and off reserve, are leading their own approaches to Wraparound in ways that align with local values, strengths, and ways of caring for one another.
Wrap Canada’s role is to support Indigenous-led efforts, walk alongside communities, and learn from local knowledge holders, not to prescribe or adapt the model for communities.
Community-Led Wraparound Practice
Wraparound is a flexible, principles-based approach. This flexibility allows Indigenous communities to integrate Wraparound with their own cultural practices, governance structures, and healing traditions.
In practice, this often includes:
- Family- and community-driven circles of care
- Coordination shaped by community priorities rather than system mandates
- Decision-making grounded in relationship, trust, and collective responsibility
There is no single way to do Wraparound. Each community defines what meaningful practice looks like for them.
Indigenous Voices and Community Experience
Indigenous communities are demonstrating how Wraparound can complement existing community-based and cultural approaches to care.
Indigenous Partnerships/Community Story

trainees at a Facilitator training in 2025
Reflection offered by one of the participants at the training
Wraparound folks needing aid to succeed
For Simpson’s worried ‘bout people in the streets
Homeless souls battling obstacles and defeat
Facilitators flyin’ in, taking lead on the beat
Instilling hope, building strengths brick by brick,
Addressing needs with solutions that’s stick,
Prioritize goals, healing starting to click
Far away trainers, bringing the toolkit, mix and fix.
Wrap it up tight, no room for despair,
Fort Simpson rising, shows genuine care,
Overcoming barriers, no longer fair,
Together we sine, success in the air.
Workshops blazing trails, crafting new fates,
Breaking chains of sorrow, new pathways create,
Resources flowing in to lift heavy weights,
Community unified, destiny awaits
Concerns laid to rest, all hands on deck,
Facilitators guide, no lives left in wreck,
Empathy vibes, needs met in the spec,
Resilience blooming, ain’t no usual trek.
